One (tiny, little) step at a time
I had an epiphany of sorts this morning, I'm obsessed with speed. I want Lyla to sleep through the night, every night, NOW! No more diapers, I've bought my last box, potty training needs to happen right now, yesterday in fact. But all these things are a PROCESS. Even when she is "potty trained", she'll still have accidents now and then. She is sleeping longer and longer and one day she will sleep all night every night. There are no quick fixes, no magical book that will give you the exact right words or actions to make something happen right now. Raising a child isn't convenient or quick, it's pot-roasty slow, and maybe the slower it is the better. Why not enjoy the slowness? Take her hand and gently lead her down the path but there is no supertrain to the end. That's the joy of it, each lovely long day changing a little bit, getting a little bit closer to having dry knickers.
